But how did YEP cheif football writer Phil Hay rate the performances?

Andy Lonergan - Now what? Felix Wiedwald was dropped on the basis of his performances and this was a costly one from Lonergan. 4/10

Luke Ayling - Had a glorious chance to snatch a point at 2-1 in injury-time, which he failed to take by inches. Watkins and Brentford got at him in the opening 45 minutes. 5/10

Pontus Jansson - Gave away Brentford’s penalty with a risky challenge from behind and has not shown his A Game for some time now. 5/10

Liam Cooper - Leeds allowed their backline to come under pressure at first and it would be wrong to blame Cooper for any of the concessions. 6/10

Gaetano Berardi - A weak link at certain moments of the game but provided all the running down the left after the break, forcing a costly error from Bentley. 6/10

Ronaldo Vieira - If he had played for 90 minutes like he played at the start of the second period, Brentford would have had a more difficult night. 6/10

Eunan O’Kane - One of two players withdrawn at the interval, after a half which United failed to manage or properly control. 4/10

Gjanni Alioski - Snaffled the equaliser and posed more of a threat in the spell where Leeds were dominant but is still struggling to convince. 6/10

Kalvin Phillips - Nowhere in the first half and his trip gave away the free-kick which Barbet converted. A tough evening. 5/10

Samuel Saiz - The heartbeat of this team and the player who any revival must be built around. But cannot do as much as Leeds are looking for him to do on his own. 7/10

Pierre-Michel Lasogga - Made so little impact and wasted a good chance to lob Bentley. Removed at half-time and deserved to be. 4/10

Substitutes:

Kemar Roofe (for Lasogga, 46) - Didn’t make as big an impact as Hernandez but the appearance of both gave Leeds a spring in their step. 7/10

Pablo Hernandez (for O’Kane, 46) - The right attitude and the right intensity levels. Doesn’t always thrive away from home but should he have started? 7/10

Jay-Roy Grot (for Maupay, 80) - Not the game-changer that Christiansen so badly needs. Can’t get a sniff of a goal. 5/10

Subs (not used): Felix Wiedwald, Conor Shaughnessy, Stuart Dallas, Hadi Sacko.

Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire) - No doubts about the penalty but some other decisions were dubious. Went easy on Leeds with his yellow card. 6/10
