Featherstone Rovers expect to lose Jessie

CO-OP Championship leaders Featherstone Rovers are resigned to losing star Papua New Guinea centre Jessie Joe Parker to neighbours Wakefield Trinity Wildcats next season.

But coach Daryl Powell has already taken steps to find a replacement, by bringing in Duane Straugheir on loan from Bradford Bulls.

Powell said: "Jessie Joe will be playing for Wakefield, that is pretty much nailed on.

"Stanley Gene and Dave Howes are his agents and that's where they see his career going.

"We will move on and look to develop the team for next year. We will need a centre and Duane looks to fit the bill. He hasn't played for Bradford's first team this year and hopefully if we fit together, a deal can be done for next season."

Of Straugheir, 20, Powell said: "He has signed until the end of the season and we'll take it from there.

"He gives us strength in depth in the outside backs.

"He looks powerful and aggressive and the signs are he is going to press the players who are already in there."
