ENGLAND were ultimately overwhelmed at The Gabba as hosts Australia cruised to a 10-wicket victory in the opening Ashes Test match.

Despite the setback – England haven’t won a Test in Brisbane since 1987 – there were some positive performances for the tourists to take from the game which, for at least the fiorst three days, was an even contest.
