LEADERS Morley proved to be the stars of this weekend’s Division Two action, overcoming Bankfoot by eight wickets on Saturday, writes Oliver Roby.

Bankfoot, who sit eighth in the table, batted first and set a target of 127 after David Nebard took four wickets to rapidly clear out the hosts. In reply, Morley wasted no time in taking out their opponents’ total as James McNichol hit an unbeaten 68 to lead his side to a comfortable win.

Meanwhile, second-placed Scholes kept up the pressure on their title rivals with a dramatic two-wicket victory over a spirited Idle side.

Idle, who sit at the foot of the table after failing to win any of their 14 matches this season, were first at the crease and set up a modest 164 run chase. But their bowlers were in determined mood, Ijaz Ahmed starring with five wickets. However, the title hopefuls had just enough to get over the line.

Elsewhere, Baildon made it a clean sweep for the division’s top three this weekend as they crushed Brighouse by 118 runs, while Gomersal continued their fine form of late as they comfortably overcame Yeadon by four wickets.

Finally, Hartshead Moor earned a three-wicket win against relegation rivals Windhill.

In the Second XI Divison One, there were comfortable wicket victories for Farsley, Yeadon and Morley, while Pudsey St Lawrence tied with New Farnley.

Meanwhile in the Second XI Division 2, Scholes took the headlines with a 175-run victory while there were convincing wins for Baildon, Gomersal and East Bierley.
