The Ashes: Chase is on in Adelaide as England dismantle Australia
JAMES ANDERSON recorded his maiden five-wicket haul in Australia as England bowled their Ashes hosts out for 138 and left themselves an improbable victory target of 354 at the Adelaide Oval.
England’s all-time leading wicket-taker marked his 15th Test down under with figures of 5-43 as he and Chris Woakes (4-36) continued the tourists’ fightback on day four of this second Test.
Their chances of levelling the series score at 1-1 nonetheless remain distant, with a ground-record run chase required over the final five sessions.
England fielded as well as bowled especially well, Dawid Malan at gully and Craig Overton at fine-leg taking outstanding catches in a home innings featuring a joint top-score of only 20 after Steve Smith surprisingly chose not to enforce the follow-on under lights.
In their chase, England found themselves 96-3 after 34 overs, Alastair Cook (16), Mark Stoneman (36) and James Vince (15) all back in the pavilion.
