Virus rules Josh Warrington out of bout with Jorge Sanchez at O2 Arena

WBC International featherweight champion Josh Warrington has pulled out of Saturday’s event at The O2 arena in London.

The Leeds-based boxer has been suffering from a virus, which has ruled him out of action.

Warrington was expected to take on Jorge Sanchez, of Panama, and defend the WBC International featherweight crown.

He is thought to be keen to prove he deserves an IBF featherweight title clash against world champion Lee Selby, something the fight against Sanchez was intended to outline.

Many Leeds United fans were expected to attend the event at The O2 arena after the club’s game against Charlton to support Warrington, who is a keen fan of the Elland Road side.

Warrington’s last bout was at the First Direct Arena on September 5, beating Joel Brunker to defend his two titles. He remains undefeated, with 22 victories to his name. Warrington will be replaced by Dereck Chisora, with the Finchley man seeking to outline his credentials as a possible contender for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight title.

The main event on the evening is for that belt, and features defending champion Anthony Joshua taking on Dillian Whyte.
