LEEDS boxer Thomas Young will bid to become the first Ultimate Boxxer champion at the Manchester Arena next Friday (April 27).
The new event, which will be televised on 5Spike and also streamed live on Unilad, will see eight unbeaten fighters, compete for a £16,000 cash prize over four quarter-finals, two-semi-finals, and a final all in one night.
Middleton ace Young will take on Stoke-on-Trent fighter Ben Eland in his quarter-final from 8pm on the night and if successful he would face the winner of the bout between Northampton’s Drew Brown and Southampton’s Jimmy Cooper before a possible final bout.
Each fight will consist of three, three-minute rounds and as well as the cash prize, the champion will win a sponsorship deal, lucrative social media contract and qualification to future international tournaments.
And 24-year-old Young is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
He said: “I stepped up to professional because I was beating good lads in unlicensed and just wanted to step things up to the next level. And, also, I thought if I can get paid for it as well it’s a bonus.
“I don’t want to be doing the little shows, I want to be doing those big events.
“The more experience you have, the better you’re going to become.”
