Batley Bulldogs 'must do better'

Batley Bulldogs' poor start to the season has disappointed coach Karl Harrison.

Bulldogs began their Northern Rail Cup defence with a home loss to Leigh Centurions before scraping a 12-8 win at Hunslet Hawks on Sunday.

Harrison's side came through injury-free, but the coach said: "The performance was poor with ball in hand.

"Defensively we were very good and we got a win, which is what it is all about.

I couldn't fault the effort and commitment, but in the first half we only got past play three on three occasions.

"We have a long way to go yet and we'll have to improve, which is disappointing after the good pre-season we had."
