After a difficult start to the season, Burley pulled off a surprise win against Horsforth in Division One on a weekend disrupted severely by the weather.

Burley won by 43-runs after scoring 166-8 after 30 overs, which included a 59 from Nicholas Brook. In reply Horsforth struggled, with Nicholas Brook again causing problems for the visitors as he took four wickets to decimate the top order and also running out the danger man Byron Boshoff, who’s been scoring runs for fun this season.

Horsforth could manage only 123 all out in a defeat which sees them fall to second in the table.

Burley captain Brook reasoned: “It’s been a poor start (to the season). In the first two games we played two decent teams in Bilton and Rawdon but we were under-practiced and that showed.

“We were very slow to get into the groove but we’re always a challenge for any team, we’ve shown that over the years and we will be again this year.”

Next up for Burley is League champions and local rivals Otley. Brook added: “They’re our big rivals and they’ve got the better of us the last couple of years. They were the team to beat last year and they beat us twice so we’re hoping we can get one over on them, and we owe them one.
