When Stockdales opened in Leeds in September 2015, it brought a new concept to the local dining scene: country dining in the heart of the city, serving up simple yet elegant dishes, all of which is enhanced by the beautifully renovated interior of the former Pearl Insurance building. Several of the 200-year-old features of the building have been restored, including some of the original tiled floors.
Don’t be mistaken, this is high-end dining, just without all the starchy formality which normally goes with it. The restaurant is split across two floors, with a bar and dining area on the ground floor and an additional dining area, private dining room and kitchen on the floor below.
Stockdales of Yorkshire endeavours to bring together a deep understanding of local produce, agriculture and an unrivalled restaurant environment. Stockdales prides itself not just on the quality of the ingredients but also the welfare of the animal, the care of the farmer, the diligence of food preparation, and, of course, the skill of the chef - all of which sits very nicely with the whole ‘farm to fork’ ethos that has grown in recent years. Steak restaurants have become hugely popular and one of Stockdales points of difference - and something it makes a big play of on its website - is its Wagyu beef, which we’re reliably told is hand selected, aged for 28 days, precision trimmed and cooked over a Josper Grill (a specialist charcoal oven).
“We heard about this place from a few different friends and had to travel some distance to see what all the fuss was about. What an amazing Chateaubriand and extensive wine list broken down into different regions of The World. Set in great surroundings with excellent service from friendly staff. If you love streak and are looking for something special then this place is well worth a visit.” | Google review, December 2017
“Service was excellent. Food was immaculately presented and cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend Stockdales to others.” | Facebook review, December 2017
“First time to the restaurant and I was highly impressed with both the food and the service. My husband isn’t a fan of city centre eating as he finds it sometimes over-rated but it was a definate thumbs up from him.” | Facebook review, December 2017
