As one of Yorkshire’s leading recruitment agencies, KD Recruitment can reveal the latest findings from KPMG and REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation). The KPMG and REC, UK Report on Jobs: North of England has just been published and shows an unpredicted yet welcome growth in permanent jobs availability, the fastest since February 2017.

Kelly Dunn, Managing Director of KD Recruitment, said: “KD Recruitment has always been ahead of the curve within our industry across North and East Yorkshire, and we have helped shape this latest report about the jobs market.

“The steep increase in the availability of permanent positions is unexpected yet is very welcome, of course. However, as we predicted back in lockdown one, the supply of prospective employees across the North of England continues to fall. Competition for candidates is fierce and furlough has also meant the there is a smaller pool of available workers.

“In April, there was also evidence of the quickest rise in permanent salaries in 12 months which, as we are seeing, is the result of a smaller candidate pool.

“KD Recruitment is well-prepared for this situation and employers should be aware that the support the recruitment industry offers removes the uncertainty of finding that perfect candidate. Our procedures ensure that even when good candidates are few and far between, we can recruit the best people for the job.”

Businesses have also needed to adapt to social distancing measures which are set to be in place for the foreseeable future. Kelly said: “Some businesses have returned to the offices, others are still asking employees to work from home, while still others are offering a hybrid of the two. This represents a major shift in working patterns in the world of employment. However, all this means nothing if you haven’t got the right team members by your side.”

Ian Beaumont, office senior partner for KPMG in Newcastle, said: “It is great to see another positive month for the jobs market in the North … Not only have we seen a return to pre-pandemic levels of permanent staff appointments, but it is at its highest rate in more than four years … confidence is returning across the North East as employers in our area look to hire for a more optimistic and busy year ahead.”
