More than £40,000 was spent to give a new look to the Cross Keys pub on Britannia Road in December 1982. The investment was used to give the sizable interior a Tudor look to match its mock-period exterior, complete with stone castle-type tower. The licensee was Barry Halford.

The Rt Hon Merlyn Rees, MP for South Leeds and Morley, opened the new headquarters of DEC Kitchens Ltd on Topcliffe Lane in February 1985. The premises extended to more than 62,000 sq ft and helped the company, which was launched in 1977, to treble its production of kitchen furniture.
