YORKSHIRE’S most famous confectioner is renowned for its craftsmanship, but this Easter it has taken the idea of luxury to a whole new level.
Bettys, the family-run tearoom and bakery has unveiled the big gun in its impressive armoury of temptations for chocolate lovers.
The spectacular Bettys Imperial Easter Egg is only made to order and is delivered to your door by courier service.
Named after the Imperial Suite at Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms in Harrogate, each egg stands 70cm high, is 5.4kg in weight and costs £250. A video of the egg posted on Facebook has attracted more than half a million views.
Each egg is decorated with an array of season-appropriate items - edible ferns, hand-painted butterflies and lifelike spring flowers. Bettys chocolatier Robin Kendall said: “One of my responsibilities is to make the huge chocolate shells for the Imperial Egg. We only makes a very limited number of these eggs: on average between 10-15 a year. It takes about a day to create just one.”
Claire Gallagher, Bettys chocolate expert and head of food and drink innovation, said: “Chocolate craft at Bettys is all about the attention to detail, the skills we have honed and worked on for generations and the passing on of knowledge. These skills and knowledge have given Bettys a point of difference and a pride and passion in what we do."
