Weather: Fog causes early morning visibility issues

Early risers will have noticed a thick blanket of fog enveloping Leeds in the early hours of Monday morning.

But there is some good news for residents about to set off for work or on the school run.

The fog shouldn't linger around for too long, according to the Met Office, with bright breaks and sunny spells set to take over for the majority of the morning.

As the day progresses more cloud will begin to appear, with some light rain moving into the evening.

The Met Office website says: "Starting chilly, with inland mist and fog patches as well as low cloud in coastal districts. Inland fog should soon clear to reveal sunny spells, however rain should push northwards later, with an easterly breeze also bringing in low cloud. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

"Extensive low cloud will soon spread to all areas, with spells of rain spreading in on a strengthening wind, becoming persistent and occasionally heavy later. Minimum temperature 4 °C."
