Mr Notley told the YEP he was delighted to win our Gym of the Year competition.

He said: “I’d like to give a big thank you to all of our members who voted for us and stayed loyal with us over the years.

“We’ve been running for 29 years now and moved into our new studio 11 years ago and over the years, it has gone from strength-to-strength.

“We know most of those who come in and we are here to give any advice they need at any stage.

“There weren’t many gyms around when we set up 29 years. We built it up from a very small basic gym and improved it to get it to what it is now.”

New Era Fitness, on Kirk Lane, Yeadon, won second place in the contest, while Leeds Premier Fitness Centre on Selby Road, came third.

“Everyone talks to each other, there is really good banter.”

Michael Tattersall, from Leeds Premier Fitness Centre, added: “It feels surreal to win third place as we have only been open since 2014.

“We are a small, friendly, local family-run business and run a variety of different classes.”
