Letter: Scheme is a waste of money

Have your say

So Coun Richard Lewis believes people oppose the Trolleybus (NGT) scheme because of misinformation or misunderstanding (YEP, April 19).

Since the only information being produced on the subject is by METRO there is no misinformation. As for people not understanding the ramifications of the Trolleybus scheme, Coun Lewis is really clutching at straws.

Anyone with an iota of common sense can understand that the whole scheme is a complete waste of money and will do nothing to improve public transport in Leeds.

Only this week, there has been news about greatly increased air pollution in Sheffield caused by additional numbers of cars on the road. So the supertram system is Sheffield has not led to a reduction in car usage and that scheme covers more than one corridor into the city centre unlike the Leeds scheme.

Perhaps Coun Lewis should stop trying to ‘pull the wool over our eyes’ with his own misinformation by suggesting that the trolley bus will provide fast, reliable journeys, when METRO’s own information says the average journey speed of the Trolleybus will be 12mph.

He further suggests that the trolleybus will benefit the economy of Leeds by £160 million a year.

Really? Is Coun Lewis psychic?

Just how does he come up with such a figure?
