Letter: Quick query - Good cyclists can go faster than planned trolleybus

Have your say

Surely councillor Lewis has made a mistake in his letter (YEP, January 17). He believes the NGT trolley bus is a rapid transport system. It isn’t.

The trolleybus is cited on its brochure as travelling the 6.4 kilometres from the city centre to Boddington Hall in 21 minutes. A basic calculation shows this to be about 12mph. On questioning officials from the NGT project team at the recent display of plans in Headingley last week, these officials admitted this was the case. A good cyclist could do that speed as well as improved bus service.

NGT trolleybus – a rapid transit system? It is OGT (Old Generation Transport) that is slow and not cost effective.
