I am not a member of the Green party, but since one of the arguments used to justify the trolley bus scheme is that it’s environmentally friendly, I looked to see what the local branch of that party had to say about it. On their website they present the arguments for and against it, but come down against it.
I looked in vain for similar balanced discussion on the websites of the other main parties, and found only upbeat comments from MPs and councillors who seem to have been sold the scheme, before its consequences were properly examined. Even the Lib Democrats – some of whose activists fought hard to stop road widening across Woodhouse Moor – are strangely silent on the subject.
