Now and again I feel the need to put pen to paper.
Such is the case after reading Malcolm Naylor’s letter regarding his dislike and disapproval of the monarchy. I admit I am a monarchist and find his remark that my allegiance is because I am unintelligent an insult.
I am intelligent enough to know that although the Royal Family costs us money, when you weigh up what we pay our MPs, being in Europe, our hand out to various countries, housing and payment of benefits – the list goes on and on, perhaps we are getting a bargain.
Does he realise how much money our royalty brings into our country via tourism i.e. the wedding of William and Kate, when people came from all over the world to see it. I can’t imagine people crowding the Mall to see the likes of President Blair and First Lady Cherie on the balcony of Buck House, or indeed any of our ministers and their partners, who, from past showing, have milked their positions with inflated salaries, expenses and tax evasions.
So long live the Queen and her family.
