Like Mr Cross of Alwoodley, I also have driven professionally but a bit further afield than mainland Britain e.g Finland, Norway, Hungary, Czech Rep, Switzerland and most places in between, so can only agree that Leeds's roads are the worst anywhere.
Leeds has no proper Ring Road, just a few pathetic segments, like the much vaunted "motorway" standard inner section. Shame about the twin abortions of the Armley Gyratory – still causing problems – and the Woodpecker lights, now thankfully replaced by a fly-over but which still goes nowhere fast.
Superior arrangements at Caen, Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux and Toulouse in France mean you can circumnavigate such cities easily in any compass direction. Even Lille, Leeds's twin town, a major crossroads for traffic to Belgium and Germany can be negotiated quickly.
Are our councillors too parochial to grasp what's really needed?
