Have your say

I REALLY enjoyed Rod McPhee’s article ‘What’s in a name?’

Names are very much on my family’s mind, as we look forward to the birth of my fourth granddaughter in October. So far, my daughter has discounted Jasmine, Beatrice, Harriet and Lydia. Hot favourites might be Francesca or Naomi.

I have always had my own cross to bear, in terms of my Christian name. In 1952, my poor hapless father was sent off to register the birth of his first child (me). He was a very poor speller, as was my mother, and there weren’t many Cheryl’s about in those days. He gave it an interesting slant by adding two Rs an I....

Over nearly six decades, I have tried to put a positive spin on the spelling of my name and think it makes me a bit unusual.

As for the Beckhams calling their first daughter, Harper Seven, all I can say is poor kid!
