Youngsters skip school to get fit

Have your say

Thousands of Leeds children have been taking part in skipping competitions as part of a health initiative in schools.

Yesterday the final of the competition, which has grown hugely after being launched by fitness firm Skipping School, was held at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley sports arena.

Around 350 pupils took part in the finale of the contest, which involved 80 primary schools, up from 60 in last year’s competition.

Skipping School hosted 12 competition events in the run-up to the final which involved around 3,500 Year 2 youngsters from around the city. The company provides skipping classes and fitness workshops for around 500 schools. See tomorrow’s paper for more pictures.
