Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards: Sarah's on the crest of a wave

over the years Sarah Spears has helped young swimmers from across the city take to the water.

Sarah, who is the development coach for synchronised swimming with Leeds City Council, trains swimmers right up to national and international competition standard.

And her devotion to inspiring others was honoured at the annual Sue Ryder Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards.

She won the recognition at the glittering ceremony last year and the organisers of the awards are calling on you to nominate inspirational women for this year’s awards.

Sarah said: “I was amazed to be nominated.

“You go on, do your job and enjoy what you do, but it’s really wonderful to be recognised by other people.

“So, don’t be shy. If you know someone who is quietly getting on with it, think about nominating them.”

The 2016 awards, which celebrate their 30th anniversary next month, are now open for nominations.

Each year, the charity spends £9 million on providing vital care for people with incurable diseases.

This year’s Women of Achievement event takes place at New Dock Hall, the Royal Armouries, Leeds, on Friday, May 20.

Georgina Abbott, senior hospice fundraiser at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, said: “We are open now for nominations to recognise and celebrate amazing women in Yorkshire, like Sarah, who have done something outstanding.”

“We’d love to hear from anyone wishing to nominate other women.”

Nominations close on May 2.
