Yorkshire post office paedophile jailed

A pervert who offered a nine-year-old girl cash for sex has been jailed indefinitely.

A judge told Keith Walsh, 54, that he should be locked up until he was an old man and no longer had sexual urges after hearing about his appalling record of offences against children.

Walsh, of Conway Crescent, Batley Carr, Dewsbury, has committed offences against youngsters dating back to 1974.

Walsh received an indeterminate prison sentence for the public protection after pleading guilty to two offences of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual behaviour.

Kirstie Watson, prosecuting, told the court Walsh approached the nine-year-old victim outside a post office in August last year and offered her 5 to perform a sex act on him.

The youngster said to Walsh: "Are you wrong in the head or something?"

Walsh then offered her 10 to go back to his home.

The girl rode away on her bike after Walsh tried to grab her.

She told her mum when she got home and CCTV pictures from the Post Office were circulated.

When arrested Walsh claimed he had been drunk and could not recall the incident.

The court heard he has a history of sexual offences dating back more than three-and-a-half decades.

In 1997 he received an eight year jail sentence for raping and indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Jailing Walsh for his latest offences, judge Paul Hoffman told him: "Unfortunately for you she (the victim) had been well brought up.

"She was a feisty little girl. It does not take much imagaining if she had been a more submissive girl and you took her to a place of your choosing and had you way with her. We could have been looking at another offence of rape."

The judge ordered Walsh to serve 18 months in prison before he can be considered for release.

But the judge warned it was likely to be a much longer period before he was no longer considered a risk to the public.

He said: "In my view, until you are a very old man indeed and all sexual infatuation has subsided, no little girl is safe from you.

"You lack the will or the ability to control your own urges and you are in denial that you are attracted to young females. "
