But the YEP does have a lot of sympathy for the residents of South Parkway in Seacroft, who have been hemmed in by a large-scale construction site.

And it looks like there will be no immediate end to their woes. 178 homes are being built in total, work began last september but will last a number of years.

In fairness Keepmoat, who are building the houses, have recognised and acknowleded the problems. But surely, knowing that the existing houses are all occupied by elderly or disabled residents easy access to the local shops should have been paramount. Balancing health and safety for both the construction workers and those passing by, and ensuring access via footpaths and roads needs a commonsense appraoch and there has to be good, and regular, communication with existing local residents. Keepmoat’s claim that residents had the chance to voice concerns before construction began is really not answering this problem.

Hopefully Keepmoat will now be more aware of the specific issues these residents face and, at the very least, take that into consideration when chosing when and how to balance site safety with accessibility.
