YEP says: It's too early to rename Leeds Hollywood, but we can still welcome TV companies looking to us to set up shop

One swallow does not make a summer, and one TV company moving some staff to Leeds does not make us the Hollywood of the north.

Nonetheless, just one week after Channel 4 picked Leeds for its new HQ, another TV channel has announced it will open offices in the city. UKTV, the company behind Dave and Gold, is to base its “technology innovation hub” here. The number of jobs (10 to be exact) is not the main thing, it is the rationale behind the move. They want to “harness the skills and expertise of talent outside of London and suppor the creative industries in the regions.” It’s a phrase we hope to hear much more often in the coming months and years.
