YEP says: Why we believe Leeds Rhinos are right to keep the faith

LAST SUMMER and autumn seem a long time ago for fans of Leeds Rhinos, who have undergone a spectacular fall from grace since the glorious scenes at Wembley, Huddersfield and Old Trafford.

Having won the treble in 2015, Rhinos find themselves out of the Challenge Cup and bottom of Super League and now chief executive Gary Hetherington has written to supporters effectively asking them to keep the faith.

Hetherington’s letter, the full text of which is on the Yorkshire Evening Post website, is an unprecedented move and makes it clear the club is aware of concerns being voiced by its paying customers. Certainly mistakes have been made. New players have made only a limited impact and club legends Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Kylie Leuluai have not been adequately replaced.

But as Hetherington makes clear, players and staff are working hard to put things right and they remain confident results and performances can be turned around over the second half of the season. After the stunning success of last year, a drop off was to be expected, though nobody believed things would get this bad.

But Hetherington and coach Brian McDermott have led the club through tough times in the past and we are confident better things are just around the corner.
