Leeds United fans may not feel there is much to cheer about after this weekend’s defeat, but they can console themselves a little with the knowledge that legend Peter Lorimer’s medals will stay in the city.

His medals and international caps are to be sold by auction next month, but after the news broke of the sale last week the club’s bosses could not have been faster in stepping in and talking to his family and the auctioneers.

A few hours later they announced they intended to purchase them and house his caps and medals in a museum at Elland Road, which will be part of the club’s centenary celebrations. Well done LUFC.
