Either way, you may remember this landmark building with fondness so it will have pained you to see it as a ruin for the past three years since a devastating fire.

But now this prominent building, best known as a cinema, nightclub and even a bingo hall at various stages during its long history, is to have a bright new future as high-class offices.

Given that this building is a beautiful and eyecatching structure just outside the city’s railway station, it is good that it will be restored to grandeur.

We are told it will take 18 months but we can at last look forward to such a striking construction having a bright future.

The developer says: “When complete in 2019, The Majestic will provide a stage for modern, forward-thinking, imaginative and ambitious businesses who are seeking a distinctive landmark presence at the heart of the Leeds city region.”

The new-look Majestic will boast 66,000 sq ft of what is being described as “contemporary workspace”. Its seven floors will sit behind the historic building’s original exterior while a three-storey atrium-style entrance is also being created. Bring it on. It can’t come soon enough.
