WHEN A retired GP criticises Leeds City Council over the scrapping of fitness classes, it is to be hoped the authority takes note.

Dr Raj Menon, from Bramhope, claims Leeds City Council “does not care” for the health of residents after lunchtime classes at the council-run centre were axed.

The council said changes at its leisure centres reflect demand, and that it has been forced to respond to “significant reductions” in central government funding.

That may be so but Dr Menon says “the options are steadily being reduced”. It would be good if the council could sit down with Dr Menon and come up with a compromise.
