YEP Says: Just one day to help others - and that's no joke

Millions of people in homes, schools and offices will spend tomorrow morning '“ April Fool's Day '“ playing (hopefully not too damaging) pranks on each other in the hope of a quick laugh.

But while April 1 is a day of general tomfoolery, the date this particular year is significant for an entirely different reason in Leeds. For tomorrow marks the second of the city’s ‘Just One Day’ charity fundraising events.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Chapman, is asking people to once again show their support for the event which this year will see all proceeds go towards helping people with autism.

The aim is to get everyone – individuals, schools, companies big and small – to do something, anything, to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Charity to help people in need across Leeds.

No amount is too little; and certainly no donation too much. Here at the YEP we’re happy to throw our support behind this event, raising cash which will give much-needed help and support to some of the most vulnerable in our society.

One day a year. That’s not too much time to give to helping people in our great city, is it?

Great things can still be achieved in a day – and that’s where you, us, everyone, could have a role to play.

And that’s no joke.
