But our loss as a community is nothing compared to the huge gap left in the lives of Jo’s husband, children and the rest of her family, whose dignity has been admirable.

There was a possibility that her funeral today could have become a high-profile occasion. But this is a time for Jo’s family and closest friends. Save for two areas where her cortege will slow for the general public to pay respects, this is a private funeral.

Those closest to Jo know we care. We must let them mourn in peace.
