JOBS are hard to come by. So it is good news that a raft of employment opportunities are on the way, thanks to one of our region's top employers which now bills itself as Yorkshire's international gateway.

Leeds-Bradford Airport has grown enormously in recent years, thanks to courageous investment and strong business acumen.

We are lucky to have such an establishment on our doorstep, serving leisure and business customers. Some four million of them travelled through this ever-expanding hub last year.

Airport chiefs have now authorised lift-off for new jobs on offer, from security staff manning X-ray scanners to air traffic control assistants working in the control and radar rooms.

The jobs announcement follows a record year for the air travel hub.

The jobs surge has been welcomed by the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, which said it was “delighted” over the investment announcement.

Of course, the airport is good for the region because it helps a range of businesses and gives our growing tourism industry a boost.

We have to say, we are proud of how Leeds-Bradford has been transformed in recent years. And it seems the better facilities on site are paying off.
