IT was a fantastic response by customers at a Leeds shop to collect money in memory of Sorrell Leczkowski, who was so tragically killed in the Manchester Arena bombing.

So it was sickening that the money was stolen.

The thief must be the lowest of the low to trash such kindness.

But Leeds people aren’t easily deterred. Their response was to restart the appeal and the manager of the shop gave £100. A member of staff donated a day’s wages.

We have some bad people in Leeds, but goodness knows, we have many, many more kindhearted ones.

Leeds Industrial Museum in Armley will be brimming with excitement on August 1 when, for the first time ever, the historic site plays host to none other than the Yorkshire Open Hat Throwing Championships, the brainchild of Yorkshire-based poet Glyn Watkins. picture Tony Johnson.
