YEP Says (Feb 5): Road is a win-win success for Leeds
IT IS significant that insurance giant Legal & General is to help fund the £116m East Leeds Orbital Road.
The firm clearly has faith in the region’s future. Despite the lingering uncertainty over devolution, it has a 50 per cent stake in the Thorpe Park devolpment and L&G clearly believes that it can can accrue a sufficient return on its investment from the new homes and businesses that will be built once this road is open. Unlike those flawed PFI deals, this appears to be a ‘win, win’ deal for Leeds and taxpayers if it is given the green light. And that can only benefit the wider Yorkshire because of the strategic importance of this site.
