THE RUGBY league season starts tonight when Leeds Rhinos face Warrington Wolves at Headingley.

It is a new era for Rhinos, without club legends Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Kylie Leuluai, who bowed out in glorious fashion with 2015’s historic treble triumph.

Last year was the best season in the club’s history and an enormous effort will be needed to replicate any of those achievements, but if anyone can, it is coach Brian McDermott and his players. Danny McGuire has big shoes to fill following Kevin Sinfield as captain, but the local hero has been at the heart of Rhinos’ success for more than a decade and will do the club and city proud.

Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have to until Sunday to begin their campaign. Both clubs are on the up and we are sure they too will contribute to what is certain to be another intriguing and exciting season. Best of luck to all three sides.
