Let It Be, a celebration of the legendary Beatles back catalogue, is coming to Leeds Grand Theatre later this year, it has been announced.

Featuring more than 40 songs, the show charts the band’s evolution from lovable Merseybeat mop-tops in the early Sixties to the long-haired rockers who took their final live bow on the roof of London’s Apple building at the end of the decade.

Derek Nicol, joint managing director of producers Flying Entertainment, said: “We have an extremely talented cast who have performed the show to audiences on New York’s Broadway, in London’s West End, and toured across Europe and Japan.

“The show’s most recent run was in Liverpool, where they certainly know their stuff when it comes to The Beatles.

“They truly welcomed Let It Be into their hearts, the response was fantastic and we knew it was time to share the show with the rest of the country through a 26-venue tour spanning seven months.

“The show will have audiences on their feet from the very start. They won’t be able to help themselves thanks to the iconic songbook from the world’s biggest band.

“We’re also looking forward to entertaining the next generation of Beatles fans.”

This summer’s production will stir memories for many of the four gigs that John, Paul, George and Ringo played in Leeds.

They clocked up three dates at the Odeon and another at Queens Hall as they shook the world in 1963 and 1964.

Songs in the setlist for their first visit to Leeds in June 1963 included Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There and Twist And Shout.

A Hard Day’s Night and Can’t Buy Me Love were among the tracks performed at their final city concert in October 1964.

Let It Be is at Leeds Grand Theatre from July 11 to 16. Tickets go on general sale next Wednesday, January 27.
