X FACTOR star Jack Walton was cheered by hundreds of fans as he helped to light up a Wakefield shopping centre.

The 18-year-old from Castleford kick-started the festive celebrations at The Ridings Shopping Centre at the weekend.

Jack was booted out of the competition a few weeks ago after he sang Leona Lewis’s hit Bleeding Love on the ITV talent show.

The singer helped to get shoppers into the festive spirit by taking to the stage before turning on the Christmas lights.

The former Pontefract New College student, who has many self-penned songs in the pipeline, is now hoping to get snapped up by a record label following a number of gigs across the country.

Britain’s Got Talent favourites Stavros Flatley also put on a special performance during the celebrations.

Festivities are set to continue in Wakefield with the opening of an ice skating rink on the Cathedral precinct from Friday, November 21.

Sessions will run for 30 minutes and cost £2.
