Work to tackle busy junctions in north Leeds

Work to speed up traffic flows at the locations around the Outer Ring Road will start next year as part of an £115m scheme to build the East Leeds Orbital Road (ELOR).
It is hoped the improvements – at the roundabouts where the A1620 meets Park Lane in Roundhay, the A61 in Moortown and King Lane in Moor Allerton, as well as the nearby junction with Stonegate Road – will cut journey times.

Hide AdCoun Dan Cohen, (Con, Alwoodley), said: “The planned improvements will introduce traffic lights to ensure that traffic flow is as smooth as possible which should hopefully make the journey in and out of Leeds a lot better for Alwoodley residents.
“A knock-on benefit of this will be road safety and we are pleased to see safety improvements as part of these plans, especially on the A61/ring road roundabout where all four roads will now have a signalled pedestrian crossing – which is something we have been working towards for a number of years.”
Fellow Alwoodley Conservative councillor Neil Buckley added: “We all know that the ring road gets congested and these junctions are often the busiest areas at peak times. It is pleasing to see them identified for work and hopefully this can be done as quickly as possible and with minimum disruption.” However he urged Leeds City Council to consider making the whole Outer Ring Road dual carriageway, as well as creating an express bus lane.
The work is set to start in early 2017. The ELOR is being built to improve road infrastructure as 6,000 new homes are due to be built in the north east of Leeds.
