Woman threatens to jump off motorway bridge in Leeds

Have your say

A woman threatening to jump off a bridge over the M621 in Leeds was talked down to safety by police this evening.

Officers spent more than an hour negotiating with the lone woman, thought to be aged in her 20s.

West Yorkshire Police received calls from a number of concerned members of the public after the woman was spotted sitting on the edge of the bridge near the motorway’s Holbeck turn-off at about 5.55pm.

A spokesman for the force said the drama had ended with the woman apparently uninjured but being assessed by paramedics.

The M621 was closed in both directions during the stand-off, causing lengthy tailbacks for rush-hour drivers.
