A firefighter who attended the scene told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters wearing breathing aparatus entered the building and located a female and brought her out. She was unconscious and was taken to hospital.”

Police today confirmed the woman, in her 60s, was later pronounced dead.

It is the second fatality following a house fire in as many days.

On Monday, crews were called to another severe fire at Bawn Vale, Farnley at 4am, which claimed the life of an elderly man.

Police said today they were not linking the two fires but were investigating the causes of both.
