Woman charged with child abduction after two-year-old 'taken from mother' in Leeds street

A Leeds woman will appear before magistrates on Friday morning after being charged in relation to an alleged abduction incident.

Jade Mellars, aged 23, from Trentham Grove, Leeds will appear before Leeds Magistrates court on Friday March 31 charged with carrying away a child against her will.

It follows an incident on Tunstall Road, Leeds on Wednesday in which a child was allegedly taken away from her mother, before being retrieved.

Detective Inspector Charlotte Hails, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was clearly a very distressing incident for the little girl and her mother. “We obviously have an active investigation so are limited in what we can say but we would like to recognise the public-spirited actions of the man who intervened.”
