The distinctive yellow colour of the two Yorkshire Air Ambulances (YAA) could be seen as the choppers flew together in impressive fashion, along with a third helicopter.

Bob Peters, a photographer based in Leeds city centre, captured these images.

The YAA choppers returned to operational duty at the end of last month after being grounded so paramedics could join the fight against coronavirus on land.

On Tuesday morning, the H145 helicopters, G-YAAC and G-YOAA , were completing some essential flight training, as well as taking part in some filming for the new series of Helicopter ER, which airs on channel Really at 9pm on Mondays.

The next episode features the moment a 14-year-old from Halifax saved his 17-year-old brother from a life-threatening bleed in a remote area of Ogden Water.

The YAA crew were able to return to their normal duties as the NHS is coping better than expected with the surge of coronavirus cases.

Peter Sunderland, Chairman of the YAA, said: “Obviously we are delighted to be able to start operating one of our helicopters again and have our crew available to respond to emergency 999 calls.

"The team has worked at very short notice to make the necessary preparations to recommence operations, and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication in ensuring we’re ready to resume our vital work.”

There has also been a recent downturn in life-threatening 999 calls while people are isolating at home, resulting in slightly fewer call-outs.
