West Yorkshire pupils whet the appetite for Rio

Over a thousand school pupils from across West Yorkshire got their own taste of a multi-sport event ahead of next month's Olympic Games in Rio.

The annual West Yorkshire School Games summer festival took place at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus where children from Leeds, Calderdale, Bradford, Kirklees and Wakefield competed in 17 competitions across 11 different sports.

Paracyclist Kadeena Cox, who will go for gold in Rio, was on hand at the opening ceremony which took a Brazil theme.

More than 100 volunteers were on hand to ensure the day ran smoothly.

Leeds youngsters were the big winners taking home 14 medals.
