Foodles Production (UK) faces four health and safety charges after the actor suffered a broken leg and other injuries when he was struck by a heavy hydraulic metal door on the set of the Millennium Falcon spaceship on June 12, 2014. The parent company of Foodles is the film’s maker, global entertainment giant Disney.

The latest Star Wars film has made $2bn to date but is still behind 1997’s Titanic (£2.1bn) and Avatar (2009), which is the highest grossing film of all time, making $2.7bn.

LABOUR DAY

If you thought embattled Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn had it bad week last week, think again. As he prepares to go head to head with rival Owen Smith for the role of leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, a decision to allow him automatic entry onto the ballot will be challenged in the High Court tomorrow. The claim, brought by Labour donor Michael Foster, a former parliamentary candidate, seeks to overturn the decision.

CLING ON

Expect Klingons on the starboard bow and life, Jim, but not as we know it as Star Trek fans prepare to celebrate with a week-long roster of events in Blackpool. Star Wars will always be better...

Thursday will see a chicken wing eating contest in Leeds. The event has been dubbed ‘Wing It ‘16’ - the contender who can munch down 20 hot wings in the fastest time will be crowned the winner (or should that be ‘winger’?), receiving a year’s worth of wings and will go home sporting a commemorative trophy. And indigestion.

BORIS WATCH

Multitalented political bouncy ball Boris Johnson will be ducking and weaving all week as he tries desperately to shake hands with as many of his counterparts as possible and charm the heck out of them, while at the same time dodging questions lobbed at him from a mainly hostile press about comments he may or may not have made in the past about the same people. If you want to keep track of Boris, watch his comings and going here: www.boriswatch.com

WATER CARRY ON

Scarborough’s long awaited North Bay water park is due to open on Thursday. The £14 million development was commissioned in 2012.

AND NOW IT’S ALL OVER...

Saturday will mark the 50th anniversary of England wining the World Cup, which will provide an opportunity for national pathos and much soul searching as carefully coiffured television pundits eulogise about our glorious footballing past and lament the inglorious present.
