With severe weather forecast overnight, the Environment Agency has warned people to check their flood risk and remain prepared to take action as the situation changes.

There are a number of flood warnings across Yorkshire and four flood alerts near Leeds.

The lower River Nidd near Tockworth, the lower River Wharfe near Weeton, the tidal River Ouse near Selby and the tidal River Wharfe near Tadcaster are all at risk of flooding.

The Met Office has warned to expect persistant rain all day Friday and into Saturday morning, with the heaviest downpours expected between 11pm and 3am.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for Leeds on Friday and Saturday, with a second warning for wind on Saturday.

Friday's forecast for Leeds says: "Persistent rain, heavy over hills, may lead to flooding and travel disruption during Friday and Friday night.

"A cloudy day on Friday with heavy and persistent rain across western parts of the region, bringing the risk of localised flooding.

"Largely dry across more eastern areas. Very windy and gusty, particularly towards the north and east. Fairly mild. Maximum temperature 10C."
