Storm Diana: when will the bad weather hit Leeds?

The Met Office is warning of 'very strong and disruptive winds' and heavy rain, which could result in power loss, flying debris and damage to buildings.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Leeds on Thursday 29 November between the hours of 3am and 2pm, when the worst of the storm is set to hit.

Road, rail and air services may be affected by the bad weather, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

"Inland gusts of 50 mph are likely, with gusts of 60-65 mph in exposed locations around Wales and western England," the Met Office said.

"There remains a small chance that this system will intensify as it moves northeastwards bringing even stronger winds to southwest England, Wales and on into northern England and southeast Scotland.

"If this occurs, gusts of 70-80 mph could be seen, mainly in exposed locations, bringing increased likelihood of more significant disruption."

“In either case, winds will moderate by late morning across western England and Wales, then by mid afternoon across northern England and southeast Scotland.

“Heavy rain is also likely to affect southern and western England as well as Wales, and following on from recent wet weather this may lead to some very localised surface water flooding.”

What does the forecast look like for Leeds?

The outlook for today looks cloudy and wet, with rain becoming persistent through the afternoon and strong gusty winds developing, particularly across the hills.

The rain will fade by this evening, bringing a largely dry night with clear spells and low winds, with a minimum temperature of 5C.

The weather will worsen on Thursday, with heavy and persistent rain forecast during the morning, and windy spells mainly in the east.

It will brighten up for a time in the afternoon, but blustery showers could still be expected, reaching a maximum of 14C.
