Wintry showers are expected to start from 10pm tonight and last until 10am on Thursday.

The Met Office has warned that icy stretches are likely to bring some travel disruption.

Longer journey times should be expected on road, bus and train services and it is likely there will be some icy patches on roads.

Leeds Council workers have been out gritting since 7pm.

They will grit the roads again at 4am.

A spokesman for the council said: "Turning cloudier tonight in Leeds but remaining chilly with further showers, some of these being of sleet and snow but mainly on higher ground.

"Roads will fall below zero in places this evening and overnight with primary routes being gritted at 7pm and 4am."

The Met Office said: "Wintry showers continuing overnight especially across the Pennines, but with some longer clear spells in the east initially.

"Winds will gradually ease during the night.

"The minimum temperature will be minus one degrees.

"On Thursday, wintry showers becoming isolated and confined to the western Pennines.

"Elsewhere should be largely dry with sunny spells.

"Light winds at first, becoming breezy later, and feeling chilly.

"Maximum temperatures will be six degrees."
