Potential flight cancellations and traffic delays as dense fog covers Leeds
Leeds is currently covered in a thick layer of fog.
A yellow fog warning has been issued for Yorkshire and much of the UK by The Met Office.
The Met Office said there is a potential for flight cancellations and traffic delays.
Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services are also possible.
The Met Office explain that fog is caused by tiny water droplets suspended in the air, with the thickest fogs tending to occur in industrial areas where there are many pollution particles on which water droplets can grow.
According to the Met Office, “Fog is essentially a cloud at ground level that causes a reduction in visibility to less than 1000 m.
“However, for most people, thick fog is when visibility drops below 180 m. Severe disruption to transport occurs when the visibility falls below 50 m over a wide area. This is referred to as dense fog.”
A high of 6 degrees is expected in Leeds today, with light cloud and a fresh breeze.
Rain is expected this evening, with over a 50% chance at 7pm.
Cloud will thicken this evening with rain pushing in from the west.
Rain will then push away during the early hours, followed by clear spells.
