The yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for all of Wednesday, and it set to remain in place until 2pm on Thursday (New Year's Eve).

The forecast comes after Leeds was blanketed in snow on Tuesday morning along with several other parts of Yorkshire.

Snow was heaviest on high ground such as Cookridge, and some residents even managed to go sledging.

As it stands, the forecast covers mostly the North West such as Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool and Stoke-on-Trent and it appears that Leeds has escaped the worst of the forecast.

Today, the forecast is for cloud and temperatures peaking at 3 degrees, dropping as low as -2C.

New Year's Eve will be very cold, with temperatures hitting peaks of just TWO degrees C.

But it is not thought that it will snow, with the predictions being for wintry sunshine and clouds.

A spokesman for the Met Office said of the snow warning for the North West: "Snow arriving from the north later Wednesday, moving south through Thursday morning may lead to some travel disruption.

"Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

"Some higher routes across Scotland and northwest England may briefly become impassable early Thursday morning."
